The report presents information at the geography of:
- Primary Health Network (PHN) areas - 31 geographic areas covering Australia, with boundaries defined by the Australian Government Department of Health
- Statistical Areas Level 4 (SA4s) - 88 geographic areas covering Australia, with boundaries defined by the ABS (also referred to as ‘local areas’ in the report).4
State and territory rates of HPV immunisation for girls are also presented for context in the report (Figure 3).
HPV immunisation rates at PHN area and SA4 level were compiled by applying a geographic concordance to the HPV Register de-identified unit record data. The concordance used the postcode and state/territory of the residential address as recorded on the HPV Register.
Where a postcode boundary overlapped PHN area or SA4 boundaries, numbers of adolescents were attributed to a PHN area or SA4 based on the percentage of the population within that postcode that falls within each PHN area or SA4.
Where a postcode boundary overlapped multiple states and/or territories, the state or territory of residence was used to apportion numbers of adolescents across only the PHN areas or SA4s in that particular state or territory.
Figures were rounded at the end of the calculations to avoid truncation error.
